University of Michigan Credit Union (UMCU) hired A. R. Brouwer Co to convert the three-story Ann Arbor News Building into a mixed-use facility. The newly renovated building included UMCU Corporate Headquarters and additional space for leasing out to other tenants. Work was completed in three phases.
Phase I consisted of minor demolition and significant remodeling of the third floor. The tenant slated for that space required an IT room, multiple offices, conference rooms and a break room for their 115 employees.
Phase II encompassed converting the basement, first and second floors into the UMCU Corporate Headquarters. First-floor renovations included new partitions, windows and flooring, revisions to the HVAC system, upgraded wiring and lighting, a new covered porch and an exterior ATM. New offices and HVAC modifications were provided on the second floor.
Phase III included building a third-floor addition and preparing a portion of the building for future use.
