Façade Renovation for a Mixed-Use Apartment Building
611 Church Street is a four-story mixed-use apartment building adjacent to the University of Michigan campus. A.R. Brouwer Company updated the building exterior to create a sleeker, modern look. The scope of work included replacing the original glass curtain walls with metal panels and new energy-efficient windows, masonry tuckpointing, repairing the stucco, and painting.
The project location posed significant construction challenges due to its proximity to other buildings, narrow alleyways, heavily traveled sidewalks, and public streets. The businesses on the first story of the building remained open throughout construction, so accessibility and safety of the patrons needed to be carefully maintained. Work was completed in phases allowing for the best balance between access and construction efficiency. A scaffolding system was designed specifically for this site to ensure public and worker safety. The project met a challenging schedule, and students were able to occupy the apartments prior to the start their school year.
